What Causes Dark Urine?

I have been experiencing dark urine in the morning (less than 30 days, but infrequently starting in Sept or Oct), and have had two menstual cycles in months April and August. I am now on metronidazole for a BV infection and a 20 day menstrual cycle. I am 45 yrs.
