What Causes Darkened Patch On The Foot Blow The Ankle?

My fiance has a blackened patch of skin on the outside of his foot just below the ankle, it apeared seemingly overnight, there is no heat, swelling, itching, pain or thickening of the skin, what is it?
He is 29 5 foot 4 inches and 280 lbs with very mild CP
