What Causes Darkening Of The Finger And Toe Nails?

hey.. i want to know what is wrong with my nails...they are dark especially my left big toe nail, it is extremely black. I do not experience any pain or discomfort but yet i am worried about me condition. My finger nails are slightly dark as well..any advice?
