What Causes Delayed Period Along With Brown Vaginal Spotting?

Hello. My period is 7 days late and im experiencing light brown spotting. Last month my period only lasted 2 days a which is very rare for me. My bf and i are not yet TTC. I have been off the pill for a year and we use the withdrawal method. What could this be?
