What Causes Delayed Period While HPT Is Negative?

im 38 with two kids taking birth control pills for almost 5 years. my last period was june 17 and expecting my period since last week. i went to my ob-gyn and she prescribe a duphaston tab should be take twice a day for five days. pregnancy test is negative. is it possible to be pregnant?
