What Causes Delayed Period?

I have been taking the birth control LoEstrin 24 FE for three months and started the placebo pills last wednesday. I still have not gotten a period, although I was supposed to start a new pack on sunday. I have read a lot of forums saying other women have experienced the same thing. I took all of the pills on time and have been having unprotected sex.
