What Causes Delayed Periods With Terrible Cramps?

Hi,my period is 5 days late but I've been having on and off cramps for like a week and no period,this is the 33day,my normal cycle is 26-28days although on 2 occasions in the last 4months my period came on the 31st day and with terrible cramps.what could this mean?
