What Causes Delayed Periods?

i missed my period. i am usually right on 28 days from the start of my last period to the start of the next. my boyfriend and i always use a condom. i've had no pms symptoms like usual. i took a pregnancy test on thursday (the day my period should have started) and it was negative...am i just late or am i pregnant?
