What Causes Difference In Pregnancy Results Taken On Different Days?

I took a pregnancy test came out positive then I consulted a doctor and she couldn't find anything in the sonography she then asked me to take another test which came out negative. The doctor has given me meprate to get my period. What do I do? I am really confused as to which test was wrong
