What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing?

my 80 year old mother had a nissen fundoplication procedure yesterday to repair a mixed hiatal hernia. She has no difficulty belching or swallowing however there is considerable regurgitation of liquid shortly after swallowing. What is the possible cause of this?
