What Causes Discoloration Of Areola?

I have a friend who has both raynauds and scleroderma. She has been experiencing her aereola pigment fading to her skin color. The bizarre thing is, the pigment is coming off and staining her bra. She is not experiencing and discharge from the nipple. Any idea?
