What Causes Discoloration On Left Areolar?

I am 21 years old, I have noticed on my left aereola I have dicoloration just some darker spotting areas. I am not pregnant. I do believe that I have a hormonal imbalance, I have not had my period for 6 months. I have been to the doctor and they didnt find anything. So I just want to know if the darker spotting on my aereola could also be hormonal?
