What Causes Drumming Sound In Ear?

Very recently I've started to get a drumming sound in my ear when I lay down.. it usually goes away when I sit up, however tonight its decided to stick around. Ive previously gone to the doctor about this but one look at my ear and he says its ok but this sound is driving me nuts.
