What Causes Dry Peeling Skin On Penis?

The tip of my penis seems to be dry and sometimes dead/dry skin is able to peel off. it hurts a lot if peeled off. i haven t had intercourse in several months, but i only really noticed it after the last time (about a month after). there s no outbreak of anything and i have not had unprotected sex unless i know my partner has been tested. any ideas?
