What Causes Dry Red Eyes Along With Severe Pain?

Good afternoon I have dry eyes and been fighting possibly an infection/allergies for about 3 wks. I do wear contact for about 1/2 day and then have to be removed. Eyes matte together, they oooze, they are really red and painful. Feels like there is a film over them. I am 60 years old and see my doctor regularly.
