What Causes Elevated TSH Levels In Blood?

Just had bloodwork done Friday, Dr called stating TSH level is 5.8, wants to start me on low dosage of Synthroid.....is this Hypo or Hyper? I currently take Calan SR 240 mg, Dyazide 37.5/25, prilosec otc, aspirin 81mg,Fish Oil 1400mg w/Omega 3 980 mg, Magnesium 250 mg, D-3 1000 IU, Centrum Vitamin for women over 50..(I am 66yrs)...and currently started taking Skin Hair and Nails vitamin....could any of this medication be affecting my thyroid level?
