What Causes Elevated White Blood Cells?

Today, I went for some blood work, I have elevated white blood cells, elevated RDW and platlets, elevated neutrophils, moncytes, Eos, below normal mcv, mch, mchc, hematocrit, hemoglobin, 0 platelet antibodies .. Pretty much all CBC is off in one way or another. Went for more blood work 30 days later same thing. Today they sent me to do a C-reactive, ESR, and blood smear.. When I was in getting labs. on this tue.. I asked if the doc could do a ua for possiable URI, i had all classic symtoms, the nurse asked the do they said I had to make a seperate apt for that. Well seeing I had been doign that since Thurs.. I didnt want to wait until the 16th when they could get me in, who wants to be miserable a month. I went to a walk in clinic to be tested for UTI.. They did UA no bacteria just protiein and stuff in the urine. They gave me bactrim twice a day for 3 days, to see if it helped at all. And when the doctor sent me for the new blood work today i forgot to mention I was taking bactrim from the other doctor. The only meds I am currently taking... I am wondering will it affect any of these blood tests? Not even sure what they might be looking for at this time. or what any of these values my mean..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Taking into account your personal history, the elevated white blood cells are indicating UTI, already confirmed by the other clinic. So, I think, you must take UTI seriously, and treat it adequately because treatment might be longer than 3 days you already took Bactrim. Discuss it further with your actual doctor about untreated UTI and get it treated adequately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
