What Causes Elevation Of Mood After Taking Single Dose Of Hydrocodone?

I am taking hydrocodone for pain following my knee surgery. So far even large doses have not relieved the pain. Suddenly (even though it has been hours since I took the last pill), I feel high (this is right now). It feels like the effects I would imagine for 4 or 5 pills. I have dry mouth. What is happening?
