What Causes Enlarged Taste Buds With White Patches At The Back Of Throat?

I have enlarged tastebuds in the back of my tongue and a white patch like thing on the side of my throat, or when my tonsils are, not sure if that's my tonsils though. I thought I had them removed. I don't know, I'm 18, and I'm scared to death. What is it?
