What Causes False Result In HPT?

I did a pregnancy test yesterday afternoon which said positive,i did another this morning which said neg,i used the same brand. I got a digi test and that came back not preg, what is the possibility that the pos is wrong,my lmp was 17th sept so im now 4 days late
