What Causes Fecal Incontinence?

I have had fecal incontinence for over a year now. I am type 2 diabetic which was diagnosed in 2011. As a result of the diabetes I also have neuropathy. The incontinence I feel seems to happen mostly when I am stressed which is my nerves. However when I do have this leakage it feels as though it is not coming from where a regular bowel movement comes from. Could ther be some sort of opening that can cause this
