What Causes Feces Smelling Ear Wax?

Hi. On Thursday evening I started to develop a tender ear, and over the weekend I developed a bad earache which was causing significant pain in my ear and jaw. I saw a nurse today and she said that she cannot check for an ear infection because there is too much wax and that I just need to use olive oil drops. However, I have used olive oil drops before and developed an infection from them. The wax in the affected ear has a faeces smell to it, which is not normal. What should I do?
