What Causes Fever,loss Appetite And Bruises On Lower Right Side?

My husband started about 6 days ago fever,chills,loss of appetite,pain in lower right side above the waist,sleeping all day and night,E.R. says flu hey did no urine sample not blood work,he now has bruising in the lower right hand side where the pain is? I'm thinking Kidney Infection???
