What Causes Fingernails Pain With Tingling Sensations?

i occasionally get pain between my fingernails and they feel like there are needles pricking it. i do not have any signs of infection whatsoever, and it doesn't happen often... but just sometimes i feel as if there is a splinter in between my nails poking it randomly and i have no idea why it hurts.
