What Causes Flaky Dry Skin On The Scalp And Hair-fall?

I have patches of flaky dry skin through out my scalp. I do not have dandruff, nor does my head itch. I can just feel these patches through my hair. I have had this for a long time, and as a matter of fact, my daughter has the same thing. I have also noticed loss of hair lateley and that's why I am inquiring. I am 49 years old in basic good health. I do take meds for HBP and High cholest. Any advise???
