What Causes Flu Like Symptoms After Removing Tonsils?

Hi my son had his tonsils removed on the 3rd of november. he is presently unwell for 2 weeks now with flu like symptoms a resent trip to the doctor said he had inflamed nodes but no other signs of infection he is not his usual active self is there anything in particular i should watch out for
