What Causes Fluid Retention In Legs?

I have lower extremity swelling, despite being on diuretics, I have severe gastroparesis,choking on foods and am taking numerous medications for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. My question is why do my legs continuing to fill with fluid to the point that a slit opened in my shin area. My family feels that there is some diagnosis that is being missed any suggestions?
