What Causes Fluttering Feeling In Stomach During Periods?

I'm currently on my period. I've been experiencing mood swings and depression, which is to be expected. However, for the past few days I've also been feeling constant butterflies in my stomach. Does this stem from anxiety, or is it apart of the menstrual cycle?
