What Causes Foul Smelling Red Blotchy Ring Around Armpit?

I ve just noticed my armpit was itchy and burned when I scratched. I looked in the mirror and noticed I had a red blotchy ring around my armpit. As I removed my shirt, I could smell a foul odor coming from the ringed area. This ring seemed to happen overnight and I hadn t noticed any rash previously.
