What Causes Frequent Pain In Mastoid Area Behind Left Ear?

I get pain in the Mastoid area behind my left ear - I've been taking Advil Cold & Sinus and seems effective - seems like neck area and upper shoulder area a little sore but also goes away after taking the above meds. I've had this before and goes and comes, sometimes not for a month or so
