What Causes Gagging During Food Intake?

Hi there, I am able to eat, but at a certain point while I am eating, I begin to gag and every time i put food in my mouth when I am trying not to gag, i have to spit it out. I ve had this before, but a long time ago and now sure what it is or why it came back
