What Causes Gas Smelling Period After Having Sex?

I am on my period and it smells like I passed gas and I know that's not normal. Before my period came on I had sex with my husband and right after the smell was not right. Could it be an std and that's why the smell is horrible? My appointment is not until later this month. I just would like a little insight from someone else.
