What Causes Genital Herpes?

i was diagnosed with genital herpes and i was wondering if the medicines that be promoted saying tht if you take them you will never have an outbreak anymore and i was wondering if that was true if not is there any medicine that will keep me from having a break out also i really do not believe that is is what it is because of how it looks it dont look like the pictures that i have saw bferore but then again a doctor told me that every one respond different to the disease
