What Causes Genital Irritation?

hello my son who is 6 years of age has been complaining that his privates hurt and itch. today he says that his anal area feels like it's burning. the other symptons he has had for about 4 or 5 days. He has been swimming almost every day could this be the cause and what course of action should i take
