What Causes Hard And Painful Mucus In Nose?

I have extremely hard and painful mucous in my nose. Many times bleeding will occur when blowing my nose. This has been occurring for about the past two weeks. I was diagnosed with a viral infection which I believe ran its course, but now I have this lasting symptom.
