What Causes Hard Spot On The Abdomen After Boil Excision?

i had a boil like thing to come up on my stomach.. it kept getting really big and looked infected and was hard as a rock.. i went to ER and they surgically removed it. it stillhurts to the touch and under the skin, its still really hard, the hard spot is wayy bigger then the spot... is this normal..
