What Causes Hardening Inside Vaginal And Rectal Area And Pain During Bowel Movements?

In the last few days, I began having pain during bowel movements and minor itching so I thought I might have a hemmoroids and began using an over the counter cream. During application of the crem, I realized that I have a hardening inside between vaginal and rectal area more on one side. Other side is soft so there is a definite difference. Could this be a hemmoroids symptom or something more serious? I have never had any symptoms like this before. 52 year old female
