What Causes Hardening Of Vein In Wrist After Inserting Intravenous Needle?

I went into the hospital for a bowel blockage. I had an intravenous needle inserted into my wrist. When they took it out 2 days later, I developed a 2 inch hardening of the vein. It is hard as a rock and feels like a tube in my wrist. What is wrong with it?
