What Causes Headache And Painful Pulse On Head?

today i suffered a headache and i felt a severely painful pulse on the right side of my head. it lasted pretty much the whole day. i took extra strength tylenol and it subsided for a little while but then returned....can you tell me what might have caused it? and this is not the first time. i'd appreciate any answers and/or explanation you may have.
