What Causes Heaviness In Head Along With Tinnitus In An Elderly Person?

My mother is 84 years old and is having heaviness in the head which causes headaches sometimes. She also has tinnitus. She has weakness and drowsiness. Doctor has advised to take vertin 8mg three times a day for 10 days followed by vertin 8 mg twice a day for 15 days and later only once a day for a week. Does vertin have any side effects? Can it be taken indefinitely?
