What Causes Heavy And Irregular Periods?

Hi, i am 39 years old and for the past four months i ve been getting my periods every two weeks. I m also experiencing heavy periods with big clots that last longer than normal. I had thyroid test which was normal and vaginal ultrasound and the doctor did not find anything abnormal. What is going on with me??
