What Causes Heavy Bleeding After Removing An IUD?

I took my iud out a couple days ago and my period started a day after I took it out. Now today I am bleeding extra bad, the blood reminds of how much I bled after having a baby, also how clots came out.. They are pretty big clots, but I feel ok?
