What Causes Heavy Bleeding During Menstruation?

I've had my period for over a month now with alot of clotting and it is heavy. My doctor has been giving me iron shots on a monthly basis because I have low iron to begin with. I've also developed a non productive cough over the past three weeks and my eyes are bloodshot. Can all of this be linked to one specific thing?
