What Causes Heavy Bleeding With Clots During Periods?

I am 54 in a few days.Still have heavy periods with huge clots. When will it stop? Most people are done at my age that I know. My clots are huge and are starting to connect to each other by string and float. Still monthly. I am tired of it. Just wondering if the floating clots are a concern?
