What Causes Heavy Period Post Child Delivery?

hi i had a baby four months ago my period came normal about a month after but when i got my period for the month of december i got it twice this month as it came early this month and i got it again yesterday really heavy. my husband and i had sex without protection also two weeks ago. i am also a nursing mom. is this normal?
