What Causes Heavy Periods With Painful Bruise In The Lower Abdomen?

I am on the second day of a heavy period and I have pain . Not stomach cramps but it feels like the outside down below is bruised . It isn't it just feels like that. Last night I had to lie down as it was painful to stand up. I never had this before I had my baby is this normal ?
