What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After Child Birth?

I just had a baby a vaginal birth six weeks ago and I stop bleeding at four weeks and I started again at six weeks but its very heavy n I'm bleeding through pads very fast..+ I have really bad cramps... is this normal? Should I go to doctors? Why is this happening?
