What Causes Hiccups After Having Diarrhoea And Vomiting?

My husband starting having diarrhea yesterday about 11:00 am. It lasted for about 12 hrs of so.he then vomited this morning at 4:00. It was severe! (only the one time) he has been having hiccups almost every 30 minutes since then, what can he do to stop them?
