What Causes Hoarse Voice?

Hi, for months now my voice has been hoarse. I always choke up on words and phrases for no reason. Why is that? I am in choir and have been for years. Could it be that? Or is it puberty? I was doing some research and I came across something called Vocal Nodules and Polyps... What do you think? Thanks
