What Causes Hot Flashes And Shivering?

I suffer from hot flashes, etc. A few days a month they are absent but despited being 72 or warmer, and a coule of blankets, I start violently shivering, followed by the warmth that brings, then shiviering again. Goes on for an hour or more. Again no hot flashes or sweats!
